SOON Ministries PRAYER UPDATE
Dear SOON Ministries friend
Just to keep you in touch with the final changes here in Willington…
Sale of properties
Vere Lodge and 71 Mercia Drive (Basil & Pearl’s WEC-owned staff house) went on the market in January. 2 Twyford Close (latterly Jane and Gweno’s WEC-owned staff flats) went to auction in February. (Clickable links take you to the RightMove sales information for each property.)
Vere Lodge, along with the Cottage, has been sold to a Willington family with children, with the grandmother to live in the Cottage. Completion of sale unlikely till April or even May. 71 Mercia Drive was initially sold, but buyer backed out, and a new offer has now been accepted. 2 Twyford Close was auctioned on Feb 24th and achieved a remarkably good price. We (and Arthur) went to the auction at a conference room in the Derby football stadium, and it was interesting to watch as 70-odd mainly local properties were sold by Graham Penny Auctions. Please pray for the final stages of the sales, and also for Graham Penny, a well-known local Christian and estate agent/auctioneer, who has been in hospital for some weeks with heart valve infection caused by a tooth abscess.
Geoff and Angie have just downsized and moved from their house of some years to a bungalow in Willington. Their new address is
33 Old Hall Drive, Willington, Derby, DE65 6DT with phone unchanged at 01283 704675. Son Jamie is getting married in Willington in May. Geoff continues to pack and ship late requests for SOON that come in, using his stock of thousands of SOON papers set aside and stored in their garage for this purpose.
Basil and Pearl are settled in their new home near Ipswich, and are now volunteers with the Christian charity Tools with a Mission, which is located in the same area.
Jane continues with the ongoing publishing ministry of SOON Ministries, and is on target to pack and ship the next issue of Booyataa paper in the next few days, with the help of local churches and volunteers in the area. It is the first to be printed since her move to Dawlish. If you do not get her email news update, please ask for it by email to [email protected]
Gweno asks for prayer as she seeks a new place to live, and work to do. Her role at WEC Bulstrode is coming to an end, with WEC’s imminent sale of Bulstrode HQ and move to a smaller UK office.
We, Tony and Mary, have now finished clearing Vere Lodge plus Cottage and 2 Twyford Close, ready for their sale, and showing round some of the prospective purchasers. Furniture and equipment were given away to YMCA, BookAid, YWAM, other local charities, local friends, or members of local freecycle groups. Virtually nothing has needed to go to the local dump, and even what did – metal and wood – was recycled and will live to fight another day rather than going to landfill. It has been a strange experience to be disposing of the very fabric of 40 years of our adult working lives. Most times when people retire, they just say goodbye to a continuing functional workplace. Our official retirement was the end of the year, but it took all January and February to almost complete the disposal of everything.
Do please pray for Mary’s brother Robbie, who is being treated for prostate cancer, and for daughter Jeni who is urgently looking for a new home to rent in Derby, as her current rental is being sold. She needs to be out by mid-April, and needs a new place to be relatively close to her daughter Sophia’s current school.
Don’t forget, you can contact anyone from the SOON Ministries team by email using [email protected] for the indefinite future. If you are not sure who to write to about anything, use [email protected] or our home address at 36 Trent Ave, Willington, Derby DE65 6DN.
Thank you again for being a wonderful partner with SOON Ministries over the years.
Tony & Mary
